The pre-professional Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture (ARCBS) is a four-year curriculum which requires a minimum of 135 credits.
The curriculum mirrors the first four years of the professional (BARCH) program. The Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture prepares graduates to pursue careers in fields such as construction, real estate development, public administration, or historic preservation. Students may also continue their education at the graduate level in fields such as architecture, urban planning, or law. Enrollment in the preprofessional (ARCBS) program is currently limited to those students who transfer from the professional (BARCH) program.
Incorporated into the program is a one-semester required study abroad at our Rome, Italy facility located in the Piazza del Collogio Romano. This opportunity is part of the fourth-year of studies.
All baccalaureate degree candidates at the Pennsylvania State University must complete 45 credits of General Education coursework. The components of General Education include writing and speaking, quantification, health and physical activity, natural sciences, arts, humanities, and social and behavioral sciences.

*Please note that the preprofessional leading to a B.S. degree is a nonaccredited degree. In the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania only the professional degree (B.Arch--5 years) is recognized for licensure application. The students applying for entry into the Department of Architecture should check with the state of their residence for similar regulations concerning requirements for licensure application.
